About Solmaz Filiz Karabag:

Solmaz Filiz Karabag, a Senior Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Linköping University & the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, Uppsala University, has conducted extensive research on the development of innovation capabilities within companies in emerging economies, including Arcelik, Türk-Fiat (TOFAS), WEG, and Petrobras. Her focus has spanned several key sectors, such as automotive, combat aircraft, household appliances, and energy, particularly in Turkey and Brazil. Additionally, Filiz has analyzed the strategic responses of leading Swedish companies, such as SAAB Aeronautics and Volvo Construction Equipment, to various challenges.

Currently, Filiz's research pivots to the realm of digital business transformation and diversification. This work is particularly pertinent as established market leaders navigate the complexities and challenges posed by digital enterprises and disruptive digital technologies. Her investigation delves into the integration of digital technology, data-driven innovation, and AI within established companies operating in manufacturing, chemical, and event & meeting industries.

Employing the process research method, she evaluates various aspects such as digital product, service, and solution development, alongside business model innovation and organizational redesign. In collaboration with prominent Swedish and Brazilian manufacturing companies, including Husqvarna and Stockholm International Fairs, Filiz is exploring the execution of comprehensive digitalization programs. A significant focus of this research is to assess the potential of these programs in facilitating digital diversification within established firms.

About the Seminar:

In an era marked by disruptive digital technologies, established firms face the imperative of digital transformation, necessitating significant changes across their business activities. This transformation is guided by digitalization strategies, which, as current literature indicates, are realized with varying degrees of success by different firms. However, there is a notable gap in understanding how these digital transformation processes are managed and what factors contribute to or impede the success of digitalization strategies.

Addressing this gap, the research investigates digital transformation strategies within established Swedish firms. Focusing on two business units of a leading Swedish B2B corporation, this study employs multiple embedded case studies to explore the nuances of intended and realized digital transformation strategies.
