Dear TEKPOL Partners,

As you're all aware we are celebrating the 25th Anniversary of TEKPOL's foundation this year. Therefore we believe it is a valuable opportunity to reconnect with our partners all over the globe working in the field of science and technology policy making and wish to proceed hosting the series of online seminars that we started in the spring semester of 2023 academic year.

Our first guest this fall will be Michele Cincera, from Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management , at the UNIVERSITE LIBRE DE BRUXELLES . His presentation title is; Competition and innovation: Evidence from worldwide corporate R&D spenders

The seminar will be held on 1 December (Friday) 2023, at 12:30 Turkiye time (GMT +3) , through ZOOM. The Zoom link will be shared with the registered participants before the session.

The moderation of the seminar will be conducted by Prof. Teoman Pamukçu from METU TEKPOL.

About Michele Cincera:

Michele Cincera is a Professor of Economics at Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) with a specialisation in the economics of science and technology, digital economics, applied econometrics and data analytics. Over the recent years, he has conducted various studies and research reports on behalf of the European Commission, regional and national public authorities as well as private companies. Prof. Michele Cincera has continuously strengthened his know-how and developed expertise in a wide array of both qualitative and quantitative methods to assess the socio-economic impact of policies to support research and innovation activities. He has supervised several students in data science projects commissioned by large multinational companies from different industries (banking, food, chemical, oil and gas) Specialties : Bibliometrics, Econometrics, Data Science, Socio-economic Impact Evaluation of Policies.

About the Seminar:

Prof. Cincera will be presenting the findings of the study he conducted with two of his colleagues; assessesing the impact of competition on firm-level innovation and productivity. The study has a representative sample at worldwide level in terms of business R&D expenditure, attempting to better define the competition indicators identifying the relevant markets for the firm-sample.
