CALL FOR PAPERS
TED
Technology and Economic Development
5th International Conference
on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policies for Development
April 16-17, 2020 Ankara
Hosted by: METU-TEKPOL, Science and Technology Policies Research Center, Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, TURKEY.
Venue: METU, Ankara.
Background and conference topic: Over the last decades, economic analysis of innovation, technology and knowledge has become a fruitful area of research and of utmost importance for people in charge of conceiving and implementing innovation and technology policies aimed at fostering the process of economic development. Moreover, those areas of interest appear to be distinct areas of enquiries in an interdisciplinary context. The relations among different disciplines are unearthed in the framework of their impacts on the dynamics of development and technological change.
The principal objective of this conference is to bring together researchers, specialists and experts from academia, government, national and international organizations. Besides, it aims to bring researchers and policy makers from both Global South and North in order to discuss the following research questions:
- What role do economic agents play in the determination of technology and innovation policies and how do they act in shaping the policy mix?
- What are the implications of policy experiences as far as different approaches to innovation, technology, and knowledge in favor of government support for R&D are concerned?
- What are the implications of science, technology and innovation policies for development?
The conference will be organized under four thematic areas focused on development issues without parallel sessions:
- Health: bio-informatics, medical informatics, security ethics and privacy, etc.
- Education: STEM education, VR in education, virtual education platforms, etc.
- Energy: Renewables, innovation systems in energy, energy security, etc.
- Industry: digital transformation in industry, new age industrial policy, supply and value chains, GVCs, etc.
with the issues to be discussed on:
- Links between innovation, R&D and economic performance
- Innovation and technology diffusion
- Knowledge management and learning in organizations
- Systemic nature of innovation (national, sectoral and local)
- Science, technology and innovation policies
- Issues concerning developing countries and technological change
- Economic impact of new technologies
To address all these issues, this conference is constructed upon a comparative and interdisciplinary approach. Going beyond this conference, we aim to bring together scholars of science and technology studies as well as policy makers.
The conference is also planned to have a public lecture and sessions with keynote speakers. Further information on the organization of the conference will be updated on the conference website which will be announced later.
